Private Portfolio Managers (PPM) has received impressive inaugural ratings from SQM Research for its managed account portfolios, confirming the strength of its investment approach while simultaneously announcing plans to expand its business development team to capitalize on this achievement.
In its first-ever SQM assessment, PPM’s Global Equities Growth SMA secured a strong 4.25/5 star rating, placing it in the “Superior” category with a “High Investment Grade” designation. The Australian Equities Growth SMA also performed well, achieving a 3.75/5 star rating, classified as “Favourable” and “Investment Grade.”
Hugh MacNally, Executive Chairman at PPM, stated, “These strong inaugural ratings validate the investment process and philosophy we’ve refined over many years. While our long-term clients have benefited from our approach for decades, these independent SQM ratings now provide advisers and new investors with additional confidence in our managed account solutions.”
The ratings come at a significant time for PPM, as the firm announces the promotion of Warren Jones to Head of Financial Adviser Distribution. In this expanded role, Jones will lead efforts to grow PPM’s presence in the adviser channel, with immediate plans to add a new business development team member focused on the firm’s SMA offerings.
“The timing couldn’t be better to strengthen our distribution capabilities,” said Jones. “With these SQM ratings providing independent validation of our investment approach, we’re well-positioned to expand our relationships with financial advisers seeking high-quality managed account solutions for their clients.”
SQM Research’s rigorous evaluation process examines investment processes, risk frameworks, performance track records, and organizational structures. The research house noted that PPM’s concentrated portfolios demonstrate “a well-defined investment strategy and approach” with “highly experienced and stable investment teams.”
PPM’s managed account portfolios follow a disciplined Growth at Reasonable Price (GARP) approach, focusing on identifying companies with superior cash return on invested capital characteristics, conservative balance sheets, and rational competitive dynamics. This thematic investment style aims to capture long-term structural opportunities through detailed fundamental research.
The expanded business development team will focus on educating advisers about PPM’s investment approach and the benefits of its SMAs, which are currently available on the HUB24 platform. With management fees of 0.87% for the Global Equities Growth SMA and 0.66% for the Australian Equities Growth SMA, both portfolios offer competitive pricing with no performance fees.
